Oral Surgery
What Is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery includes the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries, and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth, and jaws.
While we always use the least invasive treatment possible for a given dental problem, in some cases, oral surgery is required is less invasive treatment options are simply not sufficient.
Healing After Surgery with Platelet-Rich Fibrin
At Green Meadows Dental, our dentists may recommend platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) after a surgical dental procedure, such as an extraction or dental implant, to help accelerate healing. The use of PRF can also help decrease surgical pain and swelling.
The PRF process involves taking a vial of your blood prior to the procedure and then putting the blood in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich fibrin layer. The PRF layer is rich in fibrin, platelets and growth factors.
Dental Implants
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that functions like a natural tooth root. Our dentists place dental implants as part of the process to replace a missing tooth and assist in restoring your smile. A dental implant, together with a tooth replacement option, looks and feels much like a natural tooth.
Tooth Extractions
While it's always preferable to save a natural tooth, it is not always possible. If a tooth is too badly damaged as a result of decay, gum disease, or injury, it may need to be removed by your dentist.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. If the wisdom teeth are causing discomfort or problems with your oral hygiene, your dentist may recommend removing them to help preserve your oral health.
Frenectomy
A frenectomy procedure is used to eliminate a frenum, a small piece of tissue that connects your cheeks, tongue, or lips to your gum area. Our dentists perform frenectomies for our Guelph patients of all ages when the frenum is restricting function, commonly referred to as tongue-tied, lip-tied or cheek-tied.
Bone Grafts
Bone grafts involve transplanting a small piece of bone to repair or regenerate bone in the jaw. This can be necessary when there is not enough bone to support dental implants or other restorative dental procedures.
Sinus Lifts
A sinus lift is a type of bone graft where your dentist adds bone material to the upper back jaw to raise and increase the amount of bone in the sinus area to place a dental implant.
